Editorial Review: acne is a genetic condition that can stay with you for the rest of your life. quite simple, acne occurs when the shedding process of dead cells in the hair follicle goes awry. instead of mixing with sebum in the sebaceous gland and being washed out through the pores, the follicle produces cells that stick together, mix with oil, and cause a bacterial reaction which results in at its mildest, a clogged pore and at its most extreme, a cyst.
we have a 4-step program to treating acne. step 1-suppress excessive oil production. step 2-shed the pore wall. step 3-help sanitize the skin to protect against bacteria. step 4-seal the skin to help keep the good treatments in and the bad elements out.
included in the acne kit: 3.3 oz. on a clear day super wash for oily skin, 1 oz. on a clear day blemish gel, 1 oz. on a clear day hydrogen peroxide cream, and 1 oz. on a clear day protection cream.

never has my skin felt so soft and smooth after washing, 2007-01-02
My goodness, what have i NOT tried to try and "cure" my acne? ProActiv two different times, Tetracycline, Doxycycline, birth control, Duac, etc. etc. etc. Now i have only been on this system for a few days, but let me tell you that i am already seeing a huge difference in the condition of my skin. Usually, after washing, my face would feel dry and very tight; however, with this system, my face feels wonderful after washing - no tightness or flaking. The first step, the wash, is very gentle yet is strong enough to remove makeup, lingering oils, etc. Some have complained about the smell since this product contains sulfur. I however, do not think that the smell is strong enough that it makes me want to stop using this product - it is certainly bearable. The second step, which is the serum, absorbs very quickly, while giving your skin a refreshed feeling. Again, some have stated that this step burns, which i can believe if one has irritated, open cysts - like if you were to pick at your skin before applying the product, which, i admit, is an extremley bad habit of mine. The third step, the h2o2, also absorbs quickly, but is a terrific, terrific product. It makes your skin feel so soft and smooth. And finally, the "bandage" moisturizer, which seals in all of the products while protecting your skin as it contains an spf. One of my main skin problems WAS (i love that word) severe dryness. After going to a spa and being talked into buying a $58.00 bottle of moisturizer, which is more than the cost of this entire system alone, i found that the moisturizer that comes with this kit is just as good, if not better than the $58.00 bottle. As i stated before, i have only been on this acne system for a few days, but my skin already feels ten times better - so soft and clean, not to mention fewer pimples and NO dryness, which is one of the main causes of acne. I am keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that this product does not fail me as all of the other acne treatments i have tried in the past have! All in all, i highly recommend this product - it is a tremendous deal (add up the dollar amount of each individual product!) and will bring wonderful results to your skin, which, in turn, will up your confidence and make you feel better about yourself, which is the most important thing of all! So go ahead and try Philosophy's acne system! You only have $47.00 to lose if it does not work, but a TON more to gain if this system does work for you...

Better Already., 2006-12-28
I have only been using this system for three days and already I see some improvement with my skin. There are no new blemishes and the ones I had when I started using this are smaller and lighter. I have very sensitive skin and have tried benzoyl-peroxide based formulas with disasterous results. I've had no irritation from this system, and since the side-effects are usually the worst for me during the first week of using a new treatment, I'm taking it as a very good sign. The moisturizer is my favorite, it really does make my skin smoother and firmer than other, more expensive ones.
The only reason I didn't give these products 5 stars is because they have a very strong chemical odor. I wouldn't mind the smell if it was only noticable when I'm actually applying the treatments, but it tends to linger. I'm probably the only one who notices because it's on my face and I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it's still not the most pleasant experience.

Just starting out, 2006-11-24
For years I've tried everything possible for my acne and my latest was Murad. Well, that did't really work, so I decided to give Philosophy a shot. I've been using it for about a week and what I've noticed is that my skin is noticably softer and the acne that I was dealing with a week before I chose to try the Philosophy (which was continually increasing in severity) cleared it up in about 3 or 4 days. My skin is much smoother now and far less oily than it was. Obviously, I won't know the long term results for a few months, but I like the initial results and I hope it will continue. One thing I reccomend doing is using the H2O2 cream right after the cleaner rather than using it after the other treatments have been applied.

Must have for clear, beautiful skin. , 2006-08-17
I (age 43) have and still do suffer with acne and combination/oily skin and tried numerous products such as MD Formulations and ProActiv. ProActiv did work much better on the acne than MD Formulations however neither helped with the oily shine. While using ProActiv, my skin was looking dry and developing little lines (didn't want that). I decided I needed to find something that would heal my acne while also keeping the oiliness at bay without the dryness and this kit does just that. I read the customers' mixed reviews and was skeptical and hesitant in purchasing this kit however based on the positive reviews I purchased the kit. In my case, during the first two weeks, my skin did breakout which was extremely frustrating and I almost returned it. I called Philosophy customer service with my concern and the representative suggested that I stick with for another couple of weeks. The representative stated that, "my skin needs to get used to regimen and that the breakouts are due to how congested my skin is." I decided to keep the kit and am very pleased that I did. The breakouts that I did get went away within the next few days of speaking to the representative. The kit, consisting of four products, makes my skin feel and look clean and smooth, not tight, controls the oiliness, and heals the acne. I use this kit in conjunction with Philosophy's Crisis Intervention: Large, Impacted Pores kit (hope in a bottle and the present clear powder) and it works great. Also, I switch off between the hydrogen peroxide cream and the hope in the bottle as my daytime/nighttime moisturizer. Although I use four products after cleansing, my skin does not feel sticky or tacky; it just feels wonderfully clean and smooth, as if I have nothing on. Now when I get a pimple, it clears up within a couple of days plus I noticed the size of them to be much smaller. It is the best my skin has ever felt.

Didn't work for me either., 2006-07-30
I've tried many prescription and over the counter acne treatments over the years and got my best results from benzoyl peroxide based products. Unfortunately, I also got bleached towels, pillow cases and clothes from the benzoyl peroxide. So I'd really hoped that the hype over Philosophy's benzoyl peroxide-free acne treatment was warranted. While this product obviously works for many people, it didn't work for me. I saw some improvement in my skin during the first week of use but after that there was no more improvement and my skin condition returned to basically the same place as when I began this regimen. One reviewer stated that the cleanser (step 1) smelled awful because of the sulphur content; I hardly noticed it and if you were extremely sensitive to the smell, the subsequent steps would surely mask the odor. The salacylic acid serum (step 2) contains a lot of alcohol and burned for a few seconds after application but this was no big deal. I had a problem with the H2O2 cream (step 3) clumping into gooey strings as a applied it. I could never get these goo strings to dissolve and would have to allow my face to dry for a few moments and then wipe them off with a cloth or dry hands. Another reviewer's warning that it bleaches eyebrows is correct--be careful! For me, the multiple steps weren't really an issue....if the product had worked for me. While I'm not averse to trying other Philosophy products in the future, this one was a bust for me.
